Pierre Coffin agrees to direct new Minions and Monsters film

Pierre Coffin has agreed to direct Minions & Monsters, returning to the franchise he stepped away from after Despicable Me 3. Coffin directed the first three Despicable Me films and the original Minions movie, but felt he had finished his work on the series. He also voices every single Minion character himself, which makes each project especially demanding, typically taking three to four years to complete.

Producer Chris Meledandri persuaded him to reconsider by pitching a fresh idea: a Minion trying to make a monster film that goes badly wrong. Coffin became particularly excited when he imagined placing the story in 1920s Hollywood, during the silent film era. The movie is set in 1927, making it the earliest chapter in the Minions timeline, and was released in 2026.
