Partial solar eclipse visible across UK on August 12, 2026

A partial solar eclipse crossed the United Kingdom on 12 August 2026, blocking most of the Sun for millions of people. It was the biggest eclipse seen from the UK since 1999. The Moon covered up to 96 percent of the Sun in some places. The Isles of Scilly had the greatest coverage, at 96.4 percent, just after 7 p.m. Southwest England, including Cornwall and Devon, saw between 90 and 95 percent. Giant's Causeway in Northern Ireland recorded 93.1 percent. Because the eclipse happened in the evening, the Sun was low in the western sky. The whole UK could see it, but it was not a total eclipse anywhere. The next eclipse this large will not happen until 2081.
