Palestinian activist shot dead by Israeli settler in West Bank

An Israeli settler shot and killed Palestinian activist Awdah Hathaleen on 28 July in the West Bank village of Umm al-Khair. Hathaleen, 31, was standing outside a community centre when he was shot in the chest. The shooting happened after a settler drove a bulldozer into the village and began destroying trees and property. Police identified the shooter as Yinon Levi, a known extremist who has been sanctioned by the EU, UK, and US for previous attacks on Palestinians. Levi was taken in for questioning, but no charges were filed. Hathaleen was part of the crew on No Other Land, a documentary about Palestinian communities in the West Bank that won the Oscar for Best Documentary this year.
