OpenAI seeks new funding round at 1.5 trillion dollar valuation

OpenAI is in early talks to raise new funding that could value the company at up to 1.5 trillion dollars. Its last private valuation was 730 billion dollars, so this would be a large increase. Investors first suggested a valuation of 1.2 trillion dollars, but OpenAI wants at least 1.5 trillion. The company makes more than 40 billion dollars in revenue each year. OpenAI is also thinking about going public, possibly in the second half of 2026, and could raise 60 billion dollars or more at that stage. No final decisions have been made yet. Its rival Anthropic was recently valued at 965 billion dollars. If the funding round succeeds, OpenAI would become the world's most valuable private company.
