Olathe city council approves Starfish Project nonprofit at new location

Olathe's city council voted 6-1 on Tuesday to let the Starfish Project move to a new building on 135th Street. The nonprofit gives free food and clothing to between 1,200 and 1,800 people every week. The city had forced it to leave its previous location because of a road construction project. Mayor John Bacon was the only council member to vote against the move. Some local residents had objected, saying they were worried about traffic and falling house prices. The council added several conditions to the permit, including a traffic plan and a security plan. It will also review the permit again in six months. The nonprofit plans to move to the new address straight away.
