North Yorkshire Council grants money to caravan park after moorland wildfire

North Yorkshire Council has given money to Grouse Hill Caravan Park after a major moorland fire destroyed the area last summer. The fire started on August 11 and burned for over 40 days, covering nearly 10 square miles. The caravan park, located between Whitby and Scarborough, was evacuated on August 26, though nobody was hurt. The council offered grants of up to £2,500 to affected businesses, with additional payments possible up to £12,000. This local support came after the UK government decided not to pay compensation to businesses and farmers damaged by the wildfire. The Butterfield family, who co-own the park, will celebrate the business's 50th anniversary next year.
