Netanyahu responds to New York mayor's arrest threat over Gaza

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has said he would consider arresting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu if he visits the city in September. Netanyahu plans to attend the UN General Assembly. Mamdani says Netanyahu should be arrested under an International Criminal Court warrant for alleged war crimes in Gaza. He admitted that New York City cannot legally enforce an ICC warrant, and he has asked the federal government to act. Netanyahu called the ICC charges "bogus" and accused Mamdani of creating fear and hatred towards Jewish Americans. The ICC issued warrants against Netanyahu and former defence minister Yoav Gallant in 2024 over the conflict in Gaza. Israel has rejected the charges.
