Nepali woman rescued alive from flood-buried home after days

Nepal's armed police rescued a 64-year-old woman alive after she spent more than ten days trapped in her home. Chandika Shrestha was found on the fourth floor of the building, which was buried in mud from severe flooding in early September 2026. She had been trapped for between ten and eleven days when rescuers reached her. Nepal has suffered widespread destruction from flooding this year, and emergency teams have been searching for survivors in collapsed and buried buildings. After her rescue, Shrestha was airlifted to hospital for treatment. The rescue shows that people can survive in very difficult conditions for a surprisingly long time.
