National average diesel price reaches highest level in four years

US retail diesel prices have risen to $5.783 per gallon, their highest point since mid-2022, according to the American Automobile Association. The price is now above a previous peak that was set in April this year. It is still slightly below the all-time record of $5.816 per gallon, which was reached in June 2022. That record came during an energy crisis that followed Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Diesel costs had fallen sharply after 2022 but have been climbing again recently. Limited global fuel supplies, partly because of ongoing conflicts, are pushing prices upward. Higher diesel prices make transport more expensive, which increases costs for businesses and for people who depend on diesel fuel.
