Nathan Fielder releases documentary about Elizabeth Holmes and Theranos fraud

A new documentary about convicted fraudster Elizabeth Holmes had its first public screening at the Telluride Film Festival on 6 September 2026. Directors Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim spent months with Holmes before she went to prison. Fielder recorded her for at least 12 hours a day and rode with her on her final journey to prison. He also visited her after she was locked up. In the film, Holmes cries on camera, and Fielder asks her to explain what a lie actually is. The documentary runs nearly three hours and will be released in cinemas in October 2026 through distributor A24. Holmes founded Theranos, a company that falsely claimed to have created new blood-testing technology, and was later found guilty of fraud.
