NASA launches Nancy Grace Roman space telescope from Florida

NASA launched its new Roman Space Telescope on Sunday, August 30, using a SpaceX Falcon Heavy rocket from Florida.

The telescope is about the size of a tour bus. It can see at least 100 times more sky at once than the Hubble Space Telescope. Scientists will use it to study dark energy, dark matter, and black holes.

The telescope will travel for 100 days to reach a point roughly one million miles from Earth. Once there, it will search for planets outside our solar system. NASA expects it to find tens of thousands of these planets, possibly up to 100,000.
