Multiple wildfires declared major incidents across UK during heatwave

Firefighters across the UK declared major incidents last weekend as wildfires broke out in several regions during a record heatwave. In Suffolk, dozens of firefighters tackled a large fire on the coast. In north Wales, residents near Conwy Mountain were told to leave their homes because of a fast-moving fire. Fires also burned in County Durham, Derbyshire, East Sussex, West Sussex, Devon, and Somerset. Near Manchester, crews worked to control a moorland fire close to a reservoir. Officials warned that parts of the country faced an "exceptional" risk of fire. Half of England had already been declared to be in drought, which means the land was very dry and fires could spread quickly.
