Multiple supermarket chains suspend disposable barbecue sales over wildfire concerns

Several major UK supermarkets stopped selling disposable barbecues this summer because of wildfire risk. The Co-op and Tesco paused sales in July. Sainsbury's removed them from shelves and planned to bring them back on 12 August. Wilko and The Range also suspended sales during the same period.

Disposable barbecues are cheap, single-use grills that many people buy for outdoor cooking in summer. Retailers were concerned that these products could start wildfires, especially during hot and dry weather.

The decision was voluntary. No law required the shops to act, but several large chains chose to restrict sales at the same time. This shows that retailers can respond quickly to fire safety concerns by limiting what products they sell.
