Multiple states file lawsuit challenging Trump administration tariffs

Twenty-four U.S. states have sued the Trump administration over its new tariffs. The states, led by attorneys general from New York and California, filed the case at a federal trade court in New York. They argue that the president does not have the power to impose broad tariffs without approval from Congress, because the Constitution gives Congress control over imports. The lawsuit asks the court to block the tariffs and return money already collected. The Supreme Court recently ruled Trump's earlier tariffs illegal, so the administration introduced new tariffs under a different law. The states say this is an attempt to get around that ruling. The law the administration is now using allows tariffs of up to 15 percent for 150 days.
