Metropolitan Police investigate donations to Reform UK party

British police have opened an investigation into donations made to Reform UK before the 2024 general election. The Metropolitan Police is looking at two payments of £250,000 each, given by a woman called Fiona Cottrell. She is the mother of George Cottrell, who worked for Reform UK and has a criminal conviction for fraud. Bank staff also reported transfers of money between Fiona Cottrell, George Cottrell, and Reform's deputy leader Richard Tice to the National Crime Agency. A separate £5 million gift to Nigel Farage from a cryptocurrency billionaire was also reported to the agency. Police have interviewed two people under caution but have made no arrests. Reform UK says the allegations are politically motivated.
