Meghan Markle ends contact with father over abuse allegations

Meghan Markle said publicly in October 2026 that she had cut off contact with her father, Thomas Markle, to protect her children. She also said she had limited his access to them for the same reason.

The decision followed serious allegations against Thomas Markle. In 2018, a letter containing abuse allegations was sent to London's Metropolitan Police. Police passed it to Meghan in 2019 but did not share it with other agencies. Meghan said she was told the matter was being investigated.

In October 2026, allegations appeared that child sexual abuse images had been found at Thomas Markle's former home in the Philippines. His son had reported this to Filipino police. Thomas Markle denies all the claims against him. He was in a Florida rehabilitation facility at the time.
