Marsha Blackburn wins Tennessee Republican gubernatorial primary

Senator Marsha Blackburn won the Republican primary for Tennessee governor on August 6, winning about 44 percent of the vote against Representative John Rose, who received around 33 percent.

Blackburn has served in Congress since 2003 and has been Tennessee's first female U.S. senator since 2018. If she wins the general election, she will become the state's first female governor.

The Democratic primary was won by Jerri Green, a Memphis City Council member. Tennessee has not chosen a Democrat for a statewide position since 2006, so Blackburn is considered the strong favourite.
