Mark Zuckerberg raises wagyu and Angus cattle at Hawaii ranch

Mark Zuckerberg revealed in 2024 that he is raising wagyu and Angus cattle on his large estate in Hawaii, called Ko'olau Ranch. The cattle are fed an unusual diet of macadamia nuts grown on the property, along with beer that Zuckerberg brews himself. His goal is to produce premium-quality beef.

The ranch covers up to 2,300 acres on the island of Kauai. Zuckerberg started buying the land in 2014 and has spent around $300 million on it. The property also includes two large houses, a gym, a tennis court, and an underground shelter.

The project has attracted criticism from people who question whether using water-intensive macadamia nuts as animal feed is environmentally responsible. Each cow eats between 5,000 and 10,000 pounds of food per year.
