Lindsey Graham's sister appointed to Senate seat, considers running for full term

Darline Graham Nordone has been sworn in as a U.S. Senator from South Carolina after her brother Lindsey Graham died. The state governor appointed her to fill the empty seat. She was new to politics, but she had been close to her brother's political career for many years.

Now she is considering running for a full Senate term. President Trump has publicly supported her and said he wants her to run. He also said he spoke with her about a possible campaign at the White House.

A special Republican primary election is planned for August 11, 2026. Candidates must register during a one-week period starting July 21. Lindsey Graham had been one of Trump's most important allies in the Senate.
