Lime e-bikes removed from London borough over safety concerns

Brent Council removed Lime e-bikes from its streets in October 2024 after the company failed to meet several requirements set by local officials. The council had asked Lime to create dedicated parking areas, hire more local staff to move bikes, and hold community events. Lime argued that only ten trial parking locations were available in the borough, which was not enough to enforce parking rules properly.

Lime has provided e-bikes in Brent since 2019, but inconsistent rules across London have made operations difficult. Some boroughs have licensed Lime while banning rival companies, and others have done the opposite. Certain areas even use technology to switch off Lime bikes when riders cross into a neighbouring borough, which often results in bikes being left on the street.
