Las Vegas firefighters rescue woman and newborn from flood tunnel

Las Vegas firefighters delivered and resuscitated a newborn baby inside a flood control tunnel on June 17, 2026. Crews were called to the tunnel after reports of a woman in labour. When they arrived, the baby was not breathing and still had the umbilical cord attached.

Paramedic Eric Paul cleared the infant's airway, stimulated the baby to encourage breathing, and clamped the cord. The newborn responded well to treatment. Firefighters found both the mother and baby around 25 minutes after arriving at the scene, and transported them to hospital in a stable condition.

Paul had previously helped deliver around six or seven babies during his career. Some Las Vegas residents shelter in these flood tunnels despite official warnings that the tunnels are dangerous during flash floods.
