Kushner meets Hamas leaders in Egypt to advance Gaza peace plan

Jared Kushner, Donald Trump's son-in-law and Middle East envoy, met with Hamas leaders in Egypt on Sunday. He spoke with Hamas political chief Khalil al-Hayya and other senior members of the group. Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi also met with Kushner the same day. Officials from Qatar and Turkey took part in the talks too. The discussions focused on a US peace plan for Gaza. The plan asks Hamas to give up its weapons and hand over governing power. Netanyahu rejected the plan last week. He said there would be no military withdrawal until Hamas is truly disarmed. On Monday, Kushner travelled to Israel to meet Netanyahu. The two sides have 14 days to agree on how to put the plan into action.
