King Oyo of Uganda buried after succession dispute

King Oyo of Uganda's Tooro Kingdom was buried on September 12 at the Karambi Royal Tombs, after a funeral service at St John's Cathedral in Fort Portal. He died on August 27, aged 34, after treatment for cancer in the United States. Thousands of mourners, officials, and foreign dignitaries attended the ceremony. King Oyo had ruled for over 30 years. He became the world's youngest reigning monarch when he took the throne at age three in 1995. A royal clan committee chose Edward Rukidi Kijanangoma, a news anchor at state broadcaster UBC, as his successor. During the burial, Kijanangoma cast nine coffee berries into the grave. The late king's family has disputed this choice, saying his son should inherit the throne according to his will.
