Jury deadlocked in Lindsay Clancy murder trial after extended deliberations

The jury in Lindsay Clancy's murder trial has told the judge it cannot agree on a verdict. Clancy, 36, is accused of killing her three young children in Duxbury, Massachusetts. The children were aged five, three, and eight months old.

After more than 17 hours of discussion, jurors said they were deadlocked. Judge William Sullivan ordered them to keep deliberating. Under Massachusetts law, he can do this once. If the jury is still deadlocked after that, he can declare a mistrial.

Clancy faces three counts of first-degree murder. The jury can also choose manslaughter or not guilty verdicts. Clancy, a former nurse, is currently staying in a psychiatric hospital. If a mistrial is declared, prosecutors can retry the case, drop the charges, or negotiate a deal.
