Judge declares mistrial in Lindsay Clancy murder trial after jury deadlock

A judge in Plymouth, Massachusetts declared a mistrial on September 4, 2026 in the case of Lindsay Clancy, who was charged with killing her three young children in 2023.

Clancy faced three counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of Cora, aged five, Dawson, aged three, and Callan, who was eight months old. She pleaded not guilty. Her defence team argued she had postpartum psychosis when the children died. Prosecutors said she planned the killings.

The trial ran for nearly six weeks. The jury then spent seven days trying to reach a verdict. They sent three notes to the judge saying they could not agree. Judge William Sullivan declared a mistrial. Prosecutors must now decide whether to retry the case or drop the charges.
