Israeli military clears soldiers in aid worker death investigation

Israel's military has decided not to charge any soldiers over a drone strike that killed seven aid workers in Gaza in April 2024. The workers were delivering food to Palestinians when their convoy was hit. One of those killed was Australian Zomi Frankcom.

Military investigators said soldiers wrongly believed a Hamas fighter was travelling with the convoy. Two officers lost their positions, and three others received formal reprimands, but no criminal charges will follow.

Australia's Foreign Minister Penny Wong only heard about the decision minutes before it became public. She called in Israel's ambassador to express Australia's strong objection. The Australian government had previously said it wanted those responsible to face accountability for Frankcom's death.
