Israeli airstrikes in Gaza follow Trump peace plan announcement

Israel carried out airstrikes in Gaza just days after Donald Trump announced a peace plan for the region. Palestinian health officials say more than two dozen people were killed. Trump had described his plan as a milestone. It includes a phased withdrawal of Israeli forces and a disarmament process for Palestinian groups. An international security force would then take over responsibility for Gaza. Trump's envoy Nickolay Mladenov criticised the weekend strikes, saying they made disarmament harder to achieve. A senior US official warned that Trump would be "very, very disappointed" if Israel did not follow the agreement. More than three days after the announcement, Netanyahu had not publicly said whether Israel accepted the plan. His office had previously said the public version did not reflect Israel's position.
