Irish crime boss extradited from Dubai to face charges

Irish police have brought alleged crime boss Daniel Kinahan back to Ireland after years abroad. Kinahan, 49, was arrested in Dubai in April 2026 and flown to Ireland on a government jet in August. He appeared in a special court and was charged with running a criminal organisation.

Kinahan had lived openly in the United Arab Emirates for about ten years. Irish police say his organisation is involved in drug trafficking and money laundering, with wealth estimated above one billion euros.

The group was involved in a violent feud with a rival gang from 2015, which left 18 people dead. In 2016, gunmen attacked a boxing event in Dublin where Kinahan was present. He was not hurt and continued to live freely in the UAE until his arrest.
