Iran's president denies repeated resignation threats during US negotiations

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has denied claims that he threatened to resign many times during talks about the Strait of Hormuz. A senior cleric, Mohammad-Bagher Kharazi, said publicly that Pezeshkian had threatened to quit 28 times. Kharazi also claimed that Supreme Leader Khamenei warned him that his next resignation would be accepted. The story became front-page news across Iran. Pezeshkian rejected the claims and said he would stay in office. Iran's Foreign Ministry added that current talks are only with Oman about a shipping route through the strait, not with the United States. Pezeshkian said US threats and broken promises have made real negotiations impossible. The dispute has shown that serious divisions exist inside the Iranian government over how to handle relations with the US.
