International Criminal Court votes to remove chief prosecutor Khan

The International Criminal Court has voted to remove its chief prosecutor, Karim Khan, from his job. The vote took place on Friday. Khan, a 56-year-old British lawyer, had led the court since 2021. In May 2024, someone reported allegations of sexual misconduct against him involving a junior female colleague. An independent investigation found that Khan had behaved improperly with the staff member and tried to stop her from making a formal complaint. He was suspended from his duties in June while the vote was prepared. On Friday, 82 of the court's 125 member states voted to remove him. Khan has denied all the allegations. No ICC chief prosecutor has ever been removed before. Two deputy prosecutors will now run the office together.
