Instagram CEO testifies he did not direct staff to hide safety data

Adam Mosseri, the head of Instagram, gave evidence in a US court on Tuesday. He denied that Meta hid information about how few teenagers used its safety tools. The trial is taking place in Oakland, California.

Twenty-nine US states have sued Meta. They claim the company designed Instagram and Facebook to keep young people addicted, and collected data from children under 13 without parental permission. Possible fines could reach $200 billion.

One safety feature, which reminded teens to take breaks from the app, was used by only 1.8% of users before it became a default setting last year. Mosseri said he does not ask his team to hide information. Meta denies all the allegations. Mark Zuckerberg is also expected to testify.
