Indian students march on parliament over exam fraud scandal

Thousands of students and parents marched toward India's parliament in New Delhi on Monday. They were demanding that the education minister resign over fraud in university entrance exams. Exam papers have been leaked repeatedly, which has hurt millions of students who cannot afford to pay bribes.

The protest was organised by the Cockroach Janta Party, a youth movement that started as online satire of the ruling BJP. Its founder, Abhijeet Dipke, was on a hunger strike while trying to lead the march. Police had refused permission for the march, but hundreds of people came anyway. Large numbers of police and paramilitary officers were deployed.

Activist Sonam Wangchuk, who had been on hunger strike for over 20 days in support of the movement, was removed by police on Saturday.
