Indian activist hospitalized after 20-day hunger strike over education minister

Delhi police took education activist Sonam Wangchuk to hospital on July 18 after he spent 20 days on hunger strike at Jantar Mantar. A court order and medical concerns about his health led to his removal from the protest site. Wangchuk had been demanding the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. He also called for Prime Minister Narendra Modi to step down. The protest was connected to alleged cheating and paper leaks in the NEET-UG 2026 medical entrance exams. It was organised with the Cockroach Janta Party, a satirical movement that campaigns on education issues. Hundreds of students had joined the protest in recent weeks. After his removal, supporters planned a march to parliament on Monday.
