ICE officer fatally shoots man in Maine shooting incident

An Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer shot and killed a Colombian man in Maine on Monday. The officer, David Brouillette, is an Army veteran. He has a history of mental health problems going back to early childhood, and a history of violent behaviour. Democratic members of Congress have called for an investigation. They want to know how the Department of Homeland Security checks and trains its immigration officers. A similar fatal shooting by an ICE officer happened in Houston the week before. The Maine shooting has also become an issue in the state's 2026 Senate race, where Democrats are trying to connect Republican Senator Susan Collins to the actions of the federal agency.
