Ian Tyler appointed BP chairman following Albert Manifold's removal

BP's board has removed its chairman, Albert Manifold, with immediate effect over serious concerns about his behaviour and leadership standards. Manifold had only joined the company in October. The board said it had concerns about how he handled his responsibilities, but Manifold rejected these claims and disagreed with the board's description of his conduct.

Ian Tyler has now been confirmed as permanent chairman. Tyler, a former chief executive of Balfour Beatty, had already been serving as interim chairman since May. He joined BP's board as a non-executive director the year before. The permanent appointment came after a search process that lasted around three months.

The chairman change follows other big leadership moves at BP, including the appointment of Meg O'Neill as chief executive in April.
