Hunter Schafer discusses gender-affirming bottom surgery decision

Hunter Schafer, the actress best known for HBO's Euphoria, has revealed that she had gender-affirming surgery in December 2025. She spoke about it publicly in an October 2026 interview with Elle magazine, about a year after the procedure.

Schafer, who is 27, described the surgery as "amazing" and said she was happy with the result. The operation changes a person's genitals to match their gender identity. She started her gender transition when she was 14.

For a long time, Schafer had chosen not to have surgery. She saw parts of her pre-transition body as something she could feel proud of. She eventually changed her mind after her personal experience in the world conflicted with her ideas about gender identity.
