Houthis attack Saudi military base as Yemen fighting intensifies

Houthi forces attacked a military base in southern Saudi Arabia in September 2026, using drones and missiles. The group said it hit weapons stores and command centres at the Sharurah base. Damage was also reported in Al-Tawwal, a town in Jazan province near the Yemen border. Houthi media claimed strikes on Abha International Airport, King Khalid Air Base, and Aramco oil facilities. The Saudi-led coalition said 73 people were wounded. In Yemen, government forces carried out airstrikes on Houthi positions in the Taiz and Mocha areas. Civilians have been leaving the conflict zones. The fighting is a threat to Saudi oil infrastructure and to a major shipping route near the Bab al-Mandab Strait.
