House votes down measure to eliminate military aid to Israel

The US House of Representatives voted on Wednesday against cutting $3.3 billion in military and humanitarian aid to Israel. The amendment failed by 314 votes to 104, with 10 members not choosing a side.

More than 100 Democrats supported the cut, which is nearly half of all Democrats in the House. This is unusual, because support for Israel has traditionally been strong in both parties. Republican Thomas Massie of Kentucky wrote the amendment and was the only Republican to vote for it.

Democratic leader Hakeem Jeffries voted against it, saying it was "too broad." However, another senior Democrat, Katherine Clark, voted in favour. Recent polls show that roughly half of Democrats now believe Israel has committed genocide against Palestinians.
