Hong Kong activist Joshua Wong pleads guilty to foreign collusion charge

Joshua Wong, a well-known Hong Kong pro-democracy activist, pleaded guilty on Wednesday to seeking foreign sanctions against China and Hong Kong.

Wong, 29, was accused of working with fellow activist Nathan Law to persuade foreign governments to impose sanctions between July and November 2020. He travelled abroad and met foreign politicians to lobby for these measures.

This is his second prosecution under Hong Kong's national security law, which Beijing introduced in 2020 after large pro-democracy protests. The charge carries a sentence of three to ten years, or even life imprisonment in serious cases.
