Heat wave expected to bring temperatures above 35C to UK and France

A fifth heat wave is expected to hit the UK and France in the week of August 7. Temperatures in south-east England could reach 35C. In France, the heat will arrive sooner. The south-west may see 35C on August 7, rising to 38C the next day. In Provence, temperatures could reach 40C. By August 12, most of France will be above 35C. The hot air is moving north from the Iberian peninsula. Some storms are forecast for August 9, which may bring brief relief. France is already having its worst summer for wildfires, and the new heat will increase that risk. Farmers have also suffered badly this summer, with some losing up to half their crops in earlier heat waves.
