HBO releases five-part documentary series about illegal reptile trafficking

HBO Max has released a new documentary series about the illegal trade in reptiles. "Monsters of God" is directed by Eric Goode and has five episodes, which appeared between August 6 and September 3, 2026.

The series looks at more than 50 years of reptile smuggling history. Goode interviewed around 100 people, including well-known smugglers, some of whom were also murderers or drug dealers. He also spoke with federal agents and prosecutors who investigated these crimes.

Two of the most notable figures are Tom Crutchfield and Hank Molt, both famous for smuggling rare and endangered species.
