Hawaiian Council purchases Sea Life Park from Herschend Family Entertainment

A Native Hawaiian nonprofit called Hawaiian Council bought Sea Life Park Hawaii on August 11, 2026. The park is on Windward Oahu and has been open since 1964. This is the first time a Native Hawaiian organisation has owned it. Hawaiian Council bought the facility from Herschend Family Entertainment, a company based in Georgia that had owned it for about a year. The sale price was not made public. The park will stay open, all workers will keep their jobs, and existing bookings will be honoured. Hawaiian Council plans to move the park away from pure entertainment. The new owners want to focus on Native Hawaiian culture, marine science, and education for visitors.
