Government proposes law to cap donations from British expats abroad

The UK government wants to limit how much British people living abroad can give to political parties. Under the new rules, expats could donate no more than £100,000 per year. The change is a response to two very large donations to Reform UK. Two crypto-billionaires, Ben Delo and Christopher Harborne, each gave £36 million to the party. One of them lives in Thailand. Reform leader Nigel Farage says the donations follow current law, but he is unsure if they would be legal under the new rules. Police have also opened an investigation after footage showed Reform aides discussing ways to avoid donation laws. Two of those aides have since left the party. Parliament is currently debating the proposed legislation.
