Gloria Steinem, feminist leader and activist, dies at age 92

Gloria Steinem, one of America's most famous feminist activists, died on Wednesday at her home in New York City. She was 92 years old.

Steinem became a leading figure in the women's movement in the late 1960s and early 1970s. This movement fought for equal rights for women at home, at work, and in society. For more than fifty years, she was the public face of feminism in the United States.

She was easy to recognise, with her tinted aviator glasses and streaked-blond hair. She once described herself as "an entrepreneur of social change." She also worked hard to support younger generations of feminists and help them find their voices.
