Gianni Infantino announces candidacy for FIFA presidency election in 2027

FIFA has confirmed that president Gianni Infantino will run for re-election in March 2027. The vote will take place at the FIFA Congress in Rabat, Morocco. Infantino, who is 56, has led FIFA since 2016. He was re-elected without a challenger in both 2019 and 2023. If he wins again, he will serve until 2031, when he will reach FIFA's 12-year limit and cannot run again. Two major confederations, CAF from Africa and CONMEBOL from South America, have already said they support him. However, UEFA has pushed for his removal. CONCACAF president Victor Montagliani is seen as a possible challenger. Infantino first said he wanted to run again in April 2026, at the FIFA Congress in Vancouver, Canada.
