French ambassador to Central African Republic faces disciplinary action over residence visits

France has opened disciplinary proceedings against its ambassador to the Central African Republic, Bruno Foucher, 65. An internal investigation found that he brought around 30 local women, mostly aged 20 to 30, to his official residence in Bangui. The visits happened between January 2024 and March 2026, sometimes as many as 15 times a month. Some women stayed overnight, and one reportedly remained there while Foucher was away on official business. Security officials raised concerns because the visits broke rules about who can enter diplomatic buildings. Foucher has acknowledged having sexual relations with at least two of the women. France's foreign ministry confirmed that investigators travelled to Bangui earlier in 2026 to look into his conduct.
