Four Renoir paintings stolen from French museum in early morning break-in

Thieves broke into the Renoir Museum in Cagnes-sur-Mer, France, early on Tuesday and stole four paintings. The works were worth around nine million euros in total. Police arrived within five minutes after the alarm went off at 5:48 a.m. The thieves had cut through a fence to get inside the gardens. They also cut the frames from the walls to remove the paintings. Two paintings were left behind in the garden as the thieves ran away. The other two, including "Portrait of Madame Colonna Romano," are still missing. Police found two bags at the scene and have reviewed CCTV footage. Investigators described the thieves as well-prepared and familiar with the museum. It is the latest in a series of art thefts across Europe this year.
