Former Cambridge professor found dead week after plagiarism resignation

Jason Arday, 41, was found dead at his home in Battersea, south London last Friday. He had been a professor of sociology at Cambridge University, where he became the youngest Black professor in 2023. His appointment was widely celebrated at the time.

In early August, Arday resigned from Cambridge after accusations that he had copied parts of his PhD thesis and other research. He died about one week after leaving the university.

Emergency services attended the scene. Police said the death was unexpected but not suspicious.
