Flash floods kill hundreds in Nepal and Tibet border region

Flash floods hit Nepal and the Nepal-China border area on Wednesday, killing hundreds of people. Death toll estimates range from 553 to 900, and more than 3,000 people are still missing. Over 100 workers were trapped inside tunnels at hydropower construction sites along the Trishuli River. Rescue teams from Nepal, India, and China have been working to reach them, but thick mud up to five feet deep has made progress very slow. Helicopters have also struggled to land because of poor weather. At least 32 Canadian citizens were reported missing. By August 30, one had been found safe. The disaster is one of the deadliest to hit Nepal in recent years.
