Five people shot outside Virginia State University residence halls

Five people were shot outside student housing at Virginia State University early on Saturday morning. The shooting happened at around 1:28 a.m. on August 15, near the Quad Annexes area of the campus in Ettrick, Virginia. All five victims were taken to hospital. One person was in a critical condition, but the other four had injuries that were not life-threatening. Police believe more than one person carried out the attack. No arrests had been made at the time of reporting. The university locked down the whole campus and lifted it at around 9:00 a.m. Chesterfield County Police led the investigation, with help from federal and county agencies. Virginia State University has about 5,000 students and is located roughly 20 miles south of Richmond.
